Chicagoland community activist Ashfaq Syed was appointed chair of the Naperville Public Library Board on July 19, 2023.

“I take this opportunity to thank the Library’s Board of Trustees for their trust and confidence in me to shoulder this important responsibility,” Syed says in a press release, adding that he would help take the Naperville Public Library to greater heights. and to this end, he would work to conceptualize and execute multiple innovative initiatives.

Syed thanked the outgoing president, Jeanine O’Meara, for her outstanding leadership and wonderful service to the Naperville Public Library Board. He also thanked Dave Della Terza, Executive Director and Staff for their excellent work.

Others also appointed to the Naperville Public Library Board Nancy Hayes as Vice President and Nick Guo as Secretary.

According to Syed, the Naperville Public Library has been named the #1 public library in the US in the 100,000-250,000 population category for the past 10 years and has been a beacon of pride for the entire community.

Known for his community work, Syed is also associated with many nonprofits in the Chicago and Naperville area, the press release said.
